Wrong-process termination incident
Unnamed: a software operator running multiple applications · coding agent
- What happened
- Asked to update an application using an Excel file as reference, a coding agent reportedly changed the file despite an instruction to leave it alone. It also stopped a process on port 8000, assuming it belonged to the target application; the reporter said it was a different production service.
- Impact
- A loss of $1,000 (reported) and unapproved changes to the workbook.
- What would have caught it
- Confirm a process’s identity, and require a person’s approval, before stopping it in production. Give agents read-only access to reference files.
